VATLE-500

Levetiracetam Tablets I.P. 500 mg

Vatle-500 (Levetiracetam Tablets I.P. 500 mg) contains the antiepileptic salt levetiracetam. Seizures arise when groups of brain cells fire in a rapid, synchronized way. Levetiracetam binds to the SV2A (synaptic vesicle) protein on nerve terminals and helps steady the release of excitatory neurotransmitters, reducing hypersynchronization without strong sedation. The result is broad-spectrum seizure prevention with few enzyme-based drug interactions. It is a maintenance medicine for seizure control and is not meant for emergency seizure abortion.

Vatle-500 (levetiracetam) is prescribed for epilepsy, including partial-onset (focal) seizures, primary generalized tonic–clonic seizures, and myoclonic seizures in appropriate patients. It may be used alone or as add-on therapy, as decided by the treating neurologist.

Dosing is individualized. Many adults begin at 500 mg twice daily, with the prescriber adjusting the dose gradually for best control and tolerability. Take the tablet at the same times each day, swallow with water, and try not to miss doses. If a dose is forgotten, take it when remembered unless it is close to the next dose; do not double up. People with kidney impairment and older adults generally require lower doses. Do not stop levetiracetam suddenly unless your doctor advises a taper, as seizures can worsen.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.

Common Side Effects: Levetiracetam is usually well tolerated. Some patients notice sleepiness, dizziness, fatigue, headache, irritability or mood changes, nasal/throat infection symptoms, or stomach upset. Most effects are mild and improve with time or dose adjustment. Seek medical advice promptly for marked behavior changes (agitation, aggression, depression, thoughts of self-harm), severe rash, unusual bruising, or persistent vomiting.

Drug Warnings: Before taking Vatle-500, inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, a history of depression, mood or behavior problems, suicidal thoughts, prior serious drug rash, or if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how the medicine affects you, as drowsiness and dizziness can occur. Avoid taking this medicine with other sedating medications unless advised, as it may increase drowsiness.

Drug–Drug Interactions: Levetiracetam has few enzyme-based interactions, but sedation can add up with alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids, sedating antihistamines, and sleep medicines. Methotrexate clearance may be reduced when used together your doctor may monitor levels. Tell your clinician about every prescription and over-the-counter medicine and herbal product you take, including other anti-seizure drugs.

Drug–Food Interactions: Vatle-500 can be taken with or without food. Taking it with a light meal may lessen stomach upset. Alcohol should be limited or avoided, as it can worsen sleepiness and lower the seizure threshold.

Drug–Disease Interactions: Dose adjustments are required in renal impairment. Use with caution in people with psychiatric disorders or a history of behavioral changes. Close medical supervision is advised after any head injury, during illness with fever, or when other anti-seizure medicines are being changed. Always share your full medical history to ensure safe and effective use of Vatle-500 (levetiracetam 500 mg).
