Aripiprazole Tablets I.P.

Shefox (Aripiprazole Tablets I.P.) contains the antipsychotic salt aripiprazole. Unlike many antipsychotics that fully block dopamine, aripiprazole acts as a partial agonist at dopamine D₂ and serotonin 5-HT₁A receptors and as an antagonist at 5-HT₂A receptors. This “stabilizer” profile helps calm overactive pathways that drive hallucinations, delusions, agitation and manic symptoms while supporting pathways that regulate mood, motivation and cognition. The result is control of psychotic and mood symptoms with a generally lower risk of sedation, weight gain and metabolic changes compared with some older agents. Some people may notice akathisia (inner restlessness), nausea, dizziness, insomnia or sleepiness, headache or anxiety these are usually mild and improve as dosing is optimized.

Shefox (aripiprazole) is used under medical supervision for schizophrenia and bipolar I disorder (manic or mixed episodes, and maintenance). Where clinically appropriate and permitted by local guidance, it may also be used as adjunct therapy for major depressive disorder (MDD) to boost antidepressant response, and for irritability associated with autism spectrum disorder.

Your prescriber uses the full range of strengths to tailor a dose that balances benefit and tolerability. Many adults start low, often 2.5–5 mg daily and increase by 5–10 mg steps at weekly intervals. Typical maintenance ranges are 10–30 mg once daily, depending on the condition. Because aripiprazole has a long half-life, missed doses are less likely to cause abrupt changes, but you should still take it at the same time each day. Dose adjustments may be needed if you take certain interacting medicines (see below). Do not stop suddenly unless your clinician advises a taper.

Storage: Store Shefox in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of the reach of children.

Common Side Effects: The most reported effects are akathisia, nausea, vomiting or indigestion, dizziness, insomnia or somnolence, headache, and anxiety. Appetite and weight may increase slightly in some people. Rare but serious reactions include tardive dyskinesia, neuroleptic malignant syndrome (fever, rigidity, confusion), seizures or allergic swelling—seek urgent care if these occur.

Drug Warnings: Before taking Shefexy-40 (lurasidone hydrochloride), inform your doctor if you have heart-rhythm problems or a family history of long QT, low blood pressure or a tendency to faint, seizures, diabetes or high cholesterol/triglycerides, liver or kidney disease, glaucoma or prostate enlargement, or depression with suicidality. Use in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis is linked to increased mortality and is not approved in many regions. Avoid combining with other sedating medicines unless advised.

Drug–Drug Interactions: Lurasidone is metabolized almost exclusively by CYP3A4. Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin, ritonavir) and strong inducers (carbamazepine, phenytoin, rifampicin, St John’s wort) are contraindicated or require substantial dose changes; your prescriber will choose alternatives. Additive sedation may occur with alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids and sleep medicines. Use caution with other agents that prolong the QT interval. Always provide a full medication list to your clinician.

Drug–Food Interactions: Shefexy-40 must be taken with food (≥350 calories) to ensure adequate absorption. Grapefruit or grapefruit juice can raise blood levels via CYP3A4 inhibition and should be avoided. Limit alcohol, which increases drowsiness and impairs coordination.

Drug–Disease Interactions: Dose reductions are required in moderate to severe renal impairment and moderate to severe hepatic impairment; your doctor will individualize the regimen. Patients with diabetes/metabolic syndrome, seizure disorders, cardiovascular disease or orthostatic hypotension require careful monitoring. Always share your complete medical history to ensure safe and effective use of Shefexy-40 (lurasidone HCl 40 mg).
