LEVTIC 50

Levosulpiride Tablets 50 mg

Levtic-50 (Levosulpiride Tablets 50 mg) is a dopamine D₂-receptor blocker from the substituted-benzamide class that acts mainly on the gut and, to a lesser degree, on the brain’s chemoreceptor trigger zone. By inhibiting D₂ receptors in the gastrointestinal tract, it enhances acetylcholine release, which improves gastric emptying, strengthens lower-esophageal sphincter tone, and normalizes coordinated stomach and intestinal movements. This prokinetic action helps relieve post-meal fullness, early satiety, bloating, nausea and reflux-related discomfort. Central D₂ blockade also provides anti-nausea benefits. Some people may notice temporary effects such as drowsiness or insomnia, dizziness, restlessness, tremor, dry mouth, diarrhea or constipation, and increases in prolactin that may lead to breast tenderness, menstrual irregularities or decreased sexual desire. Take the medicine exactly as prescribed and speak with your doctor if side effects persist or become troublesome.

Levtic-50 is used under medical supervision for functional dyspepsia, gastro-esophageal reflux–related symptoms, and gastroparesis (including diabetic gastroparesis) where delayed gastric emptying leads to nausea, early satiety, abdominal discomfort or vomiting. Clinicians may also use it for nausea and vomiting of non-obstructive origin and, in select cases, for vertigo associated with vestibular disorders, according to clinical judgment.

Adults commonly take 25–50 mg one to three times daily, usually 15–30 minutes before meals. The exact dose, frequency and duration are individualized by the prescriber; many courses are short term. Elderly patients or those with kidney impairment may need lower doses or longer dosing intervals. It is not recommended for children or adolescents unless a specialist advises otherwise. Swallow the tablet with water and do not crush or chew it. Do not stop abruptly unless your doctor tells you to; follow the plan provided. Symptom improvement may be noticed within a few days, with further benefit over the following weeks.

Storage: Store Levtic-50 in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight, and keep it out of the reach of children.

Common Side Effects: The most frequently reported effects include drowsiness or insomnia, dizziness, restlessness or tremor, headache, dry mouth, diarrhea or constipation, and increased prolactin with possible galactorrhea, gynecomastia or menstrual changes. Extrapyramidal symptoms such as rigidity or akathisia are uncommon at gastrointestinal doses but require medical review. Seek urgent medical help if you develop high fever with muscle stiffness, severe confusion, uncontrollable movements, fainting or a fast/irregular heartbeat.

Drug Warnings: Before taking Levtic-50, inform your doctor if you have high blood pressure, heart rhythm problems or a family history of long QT, Parkinson’s disease, seizure disorders, thyroid problems, glaucoma or prostate conditions, liver or kidney disease, a history of depression/mania, breast cancer or other prolactin-dependent tumors, or recent gastrointestinal bleeding, obstruction or perforation. Avoid taking this medicine with other sedating medications unless advised, as it may increase drowsiness.

Drug–Drug Interactions: Levtic-50 may interact with certain medications, such as levodopa and other dopamine agonists (reduced effect of both), other antipsychotics or metoclopramide (higher risk of movement-related side effects), benzodiazepines, opioids, sedating antihistamines or sleep medicines (increased drowsiness), medicines that prolong the QT interval (for example some macrolide or fluoroquinolone antibiotics, azole antifungals and antiarrhythmics), strong blood-pressure medicines and agents that slow gut movement such as anticholinergics. Always tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter drugs and supplements you are taking.

Drug–Food Interactions: The medicine is best taken before meals as directed. It can be taken with water, and alcohol consumption should be limited because it may increase sleepiness or dizziness.

Drug–Disease Interactions: Patients with Parkinson’s disease, seizure disorders, heart rhythm abnormalities, liver or kidney impairment, glaucoma or prostate enlargement, hyperprolactinemia/prolactin-dependent tumors, or gastrointestinal obstruction or bleeding should consult their doctor before using this medicine. Always share your full medical history to ensure safe and effective use of Levtic-50.
