Devtic ER 50mg and 100mg

Desvenlafaxine Extended-Release Tablets

Devtic ER 50 mg and 100 mg (Desvenlafaxine Extended-Release Tablets) are serotonin–noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) used to treat major depressive disorder. Desvenlafaxine is the active metabolite of venlafaxine. By selectively blocking the reuptake of serotonin and noradrenaline, it helps restore chemical balance in brain pathways that regulate mood, energy, sleep and appetite. The extended-release design delivers the medicine slowly over 24 hours for steadier blood levels with once-daily dosing, which can improve symptom control and reduce peaks and troughs that may cause side effects. Some people may notice temporary nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, headache, increased sweating, constipation, reduced appetite, insomnia or sleepiness, and sexual side effects. Take the tablets exactly as prescribed and speak with your doctor if side effects persist or become troublesome.

Devtic-ER 50/100 are indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder in adults. By improving serotonin and noradrenaline signaling, they help reduce low mood, loss of interest, fatigue, poor concentration, sleep disturbance and other depressive symptoms. Your clinician may consider them when a once-daily, extended-release SNRI is appropriate.

The usual adult dose is 50 mg once daily, taken at the same time each day and swallowed whole with water. Based on clinical response and tolerability, your doctor may increase the dose to 100 mg once daily; higher doses rarely add benefit and may raise the chance of side effects. In moderate to severe kidney problems or liver impairment, lower doses or alternate-day dosing may be recommended; follow your prescriber’s advice. These tablets must not be crushed, chewed or split. Do not stop suddenly unless your doctor tells you to, as a gradual taper helps reduce discontinuation symptoms such as dizziness, irritability, anxiety, headache and sleep problems. Initial improvement may appear in one to two weeks, with full benefit typically developing over several weeks.

Storage: Store Devtic-ER in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight, and keep it out of the reach of children.

Common Side Effects: The most frequently reported effects include nausea, dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, headache, sweating, decreased appetite, insomnia or somnolence and sexual dysfunction. Small increases in blood pressure or heart rate can occur and are usually dose related. Seek medical help promptly if you notice severe restlessness, confusion, fever, shivering and muscle stiffness suggestive of serotonin syndrome; unusual bruising or bleeding; vision pain or sudden eye redness; rash or swelling; or thoughts of self-harm.

Drug Warnings: Before taking Devtic-ER, inform your doctor if you have high blood pressure, heart problems or abnormal heart rhythms, thyroid issues, glaucoma or prostate conditions, seizure disorders, liver or kidney disease, a history of bipolar disorder/mania, low sodium levels or a bleeding tendency, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid taking this medicine with other sedating medications unless advised, as it may increase drowsiness.

Drug–Drug Interactions: Devtic-ER must not be used with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping one. Using it with other serotonergic medicines such as SSRIs/SNRIs, triptans, tramadol, lithium or St John’s wort can raise the risk of serotonin syndrome. Desvenlafaxine may increase bleeding risk when combined with aspirin, NSAIDs or anticoagulants like warfarin, and it can raise blood pressure when used with stimulants or certain decongestants. Always tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter drugs and supplements you are taking.

Drug–Food Interactions: The tablets can be taken with or without food. Limit alcohol consumption while on Devtic-ER, as it may increase sleepiness or dizziness.

Drug–Disease Interactions: Patients with kidney or liver problems, uncontrolled hypertension, heart rhythm abnormalities, glaucoma, seizure disorders, hyponatremia/SIADH risk or a history of bipolar disorder should consult their doctor before using this medicine. Always share your full medical history to ensure safe and effective use of Devtic-ER 50 and Devtic-ER 100.
