Biovoxin ER 100 mg and 150 mg

Biovoxin ER 100 mg and 150 mg

Fluvoxamine Maleate Extended Release

Biovoxin ER contains Fluvoxamine Maleate, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that works by increasing serotonin levels in the brain, which helps regulate mood, anxiety, and repetitive thoughts. Its extended-release formulation gradually releases the medicine over several hours, maintaining steady blood levels with once-daily dosing. This steady delivery helps reduce obsessive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, and associated anxiety while minimizing peaks and troughs that may cause side effects. Both 100 mg and 150 mg strengths are available, allowing your doctor to select the dose best suited to your condition and response.

Biovoxin ER 100 mg and 150 mg are primarily prescribed for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in adults. By improving serotonin balance, the medicine reduces the frequency and intensity of obsessions and compulsions and can alleviate co-existing anxiety. Depending on your doctor’s assessment and local guidelines, Biovoxin-ER may also be used for certain depressive or anxiety disorders when clinically appropriate. Treatment should always be supervised by a healthcare professional to ensure safety and effectiveness.

The dose of Biovoxin-ER varies depending on the patient’s age, condition, liver function, and response to therapy. The usual starting dose is 100 mg once daily, preferably at bedtime, which is suitable for most adults. Your doctor may increase the dose to 150 mg once daily or higher if needed, allowing sufficient time between adjustments to monitor tolerance. Extended-release tablets should not be crushed, chewed, or split; swallow them whole with water. Elderly patients or those with liver impairment may require lower starting doses and slower titration. Do not stop taking Biovoxin-ER suddenly unless advised, as gradual tapering may be needed to reduce withdrawal symptoms such as dizziness, irritability, or sleep disturbances.

Storage: Store Biovoxin-ER in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.

Common Side Effects: Some patients may experience nausea, stomach upset, sleepiness, insomnia, headache, dizziness, dry mouth, sweating, tremor, decreased libido, or delayed orgasm. Appetite or weight changes may also occur. If these effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor immediately.

Drug Warnings: Do not use Biovoxin-ER if you have a known allergy to Fluvoxamine or other SSRIs. Inform your doctor if you have heart rhythm problems, high blood pressure, liver disease, seizure disorders, glaucoma, prostate conditions, low sodium levels, or a history of bipolar disorder/mania. Pregnant or breastfeeding patients should consult their doctor before use. Avoid taking this medicine with other sedating medications unless advised.

Drug–Drug Interactions: Biovoxin-ER may interact with MAO inhibitors (including linezolid or methylene blue), tizanidine, ramelteon, certain benzodiazepines (alprazolam, diazepam), clozapine, theophylline, warfarin, propranolol/metoprolol, and drugs that prolong the QT interval. Combining with other serotonergic agents such as SSRIs, SNRIs, triptans, tramadol, lithium, or St John’s wort increases the risk of serotonin syndrome. Always inform your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter medicines, supplements, and herbal products you are taking.

Drug–Food Interactions: Biovoxin-ER can be taken with or without food. Avoid alcohol, as it may increase drowsiness or dizziness. Fluvoxamine may amplify caffeine effects; reduce caffeinated drinks if you experience jitteriness, palpitations, or insomnia.

Drug–Disease Interactions: Patients with liver impairment, seizure disorders, heart rhythm abnormalities, glaucoma, urinary retention, hyponatremia/SIADH risk, or a history of bipolar disorder should use Biovoxin-ER cautiously under medical supervision. Your doctor may adjust the dose or monitor you regularly to ensure safe and effective use.
